Who is Tubal Cain ? -  articles section

CLAN HISTORY

Robert Cochrane 1931-1966 (real name Roy Bowers) was a brilliant, charismatic, and tragically flawed genius whose self styled hereditary Witchcraft offered a more complex, mystical vision than Gerald Gardner’s craft.

Cochrane formulated the Clan of Tubal Cain (also known as The Royal Windsor Cuveen) whose mission was to reunite potent strands of the Old Craft, weaving philosophy, mysticism and ancient poetry together with skill, cunning and art.

After Roy’s death, Jane Bowers, Roy’s widow and Maid of Tubal Cain, elevated (Evan) John Jones to Clan Magister, in order to continue the lineage and ensure the Clan’s survival.

John appointed Ann and Dave Finnin as Maid and Magister of Tubal Cain in 1986 and they continue to develop the legacy from the USA to this day.

A decade later John fulfilled his ambition to ensure that lineage bearers were also present in the U.K. by inducting two Maids of Tubal Cain, one of these being Carol Stuart Jones (appointed autumn 1998) who is the Maid of this Clan.

Carol worked quietly behind the scenes for a number of years developing this legacy, formally opening her own hearth in 2005, moving from strength to strength with the love, help and support of her partner Blackthorn, the duly appointed Magister.

Each of the three branches of The Clan of Tubal Cain’s hold bone fide lineage, complete autonomy, and without a shadow of doubt, we each have our own very particular interpretation and development of Roy, and John’s, original vision.

The expression of our particular branch of the Clan of Tubal Cain is a potent combination of pure Cochranian formula, atavistic choreography and immersion into the mythology and devotional mysticism that Roy Bowers advocated.

The Clan of Tubal Cain welcome applications from dedicated and honourable practitioners but generally operates as a closed and withdrawn order, focussing on the work rather than producing articles or delivering talks in the public domain.

And whilst “the Mysteries” are generic and therefore available to all, as Roy Bower’s explained:

There is no secret in the world that cannot be discovered, if the recipient is ready to listen to it - since the very Air itself carries memory and knowledge”

Our Clan’s interpretation of the Mysteries, coloured by our initiated immersion in Roy’s specific formula does remain in house, Oathbound and “Sub Rosa”.
